Detroit museum to show works by Luca della Robbia

DETROIT, Jan. 4, 2015 (AP): The Detroit Institute of Arts starting next month will offer a chance to see marble carvings and other Italian Renaissance works by sculptor Luca della Robbia.

``Make a Joyful Noise: Renaissance Art and Music at Florence Cathedral'' opens Feb. 6, 2015 and runs through May 17 at the museum.

The reliefs are from the Florence Cathedral in Italy and will be shown with objects that originally were in use with them, including lavishly illuminated choir books and a specially designed lectern.

Alan P. Darr is the museum's senior curator of the European art department. He says in a statement that the exhibition ``will bring to life the importance of music to religious practice during the Renaissance and the reverence artists such as Luca della Robbia gave the subject.''
