The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (COYO) is one of the premiere pre-professional orchestras in the United States. High school students come from all over Northeast Ohio each weekend to learn from members of The Cleveland Orchestra and rehearse and perform at historic Severance Hall. The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra is a full symphonic ensemble comprised of approximately 100 young musicians who come from more than 35 communities and 9 counties across the area. Besides the concert at Stocker Arts Center, The Youth Orchestra presents three subscription performances, a side-by-side concert with The Cleveland Orchestra, as well as several community concerts.
They also perform with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus each season. A chamber music program provides the members with additional artistic and performance opportunities as well. COYO will be performing in China during June of 2015, which will be their second international tour.
The Youth Orchestra is supported by grants from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, Surdna Foundation, and Nord Family Foundation, and by gifts from many other generous donors. Endowment support is provided by the George Gund Foundation, the Estate of Jules and Ruth Vinney, and Christine Gitlin Miles.
