WHAT’S HAPPENING AT LORAIN PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM’S MAIN LIBRARY

BANNED BOOKS WEEK PHOTO CONTEST: Celebrate Banned Books Week with Lorain Public Library System’s Main Library.  Have a photo taken from Monday, Sept. 22 through Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 of you reading a banned book.  The catch is that you can’t show your face in the picture.  So be creative – and sneaky!  All ages can compete.  Complete rules and entry forms are available at the Main Library and online at LorainPublicLibrary.org.  The deadline to enter is Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014.  For more information, call the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 449 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 449.  The Main Library is located at 351 W. HOW-TO FESTIVAL: Come to Lorain Public Library System Main Library’s how-to festival on Saturday, Sept. 27.  Great programs for all ages will be going on all day, starting with Couples Massage at 11 a.m.  Bring the kids to make fall crafts at 1 p.m.  Also learn to do nail art at 1 p.m.  At 2 p.m., learn to repair earrings.  Decorate cupcakes at 3 p.m.  Preregistration is required for all programs.  Registration is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 450 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 450. 

GUYS LEGO® AND BRUNCH: Gentlemen, sign up today to attend Lorain Public Library System Main Library’s Just for Guys Get-Together LEGO® Party.  It’s Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Rose Cafe located at Lakeview Park, 1800 W. WHAT’S HOT: Step back into the late 1800s when the USS Jeannette set sail for one of the last unmapped areas of the globe – the North Pole.  Request your copy of In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette by Hampton Sides from the Lorain Public Library System.  This book is on Publishers Weekly nonfiction best-seller list.  Two years into the northern trek, the ship sailed into uncharted seas, became trapped in ice and sank.  The book tells the story of the men’s march across endless ice, starting a thousand miles north of Siberia.  This book is available from the Lorain Public Library System as a book, audiobook, eBook and digital audiobook.  Electronic media can be found online in the eLibrary at LorainPublicLibrary.org through OverDrive.  Holds can be placed through the online catalog, through the CLEVNET app, or by calling or stopping at your local library.  For more information, call the Lorain Public Library System at 1-800-322-READ.
