Devin González is recipient of La Prensa scholarship

Devin González, 18, the son of Luis and María  González of Genoa, Ohio, has received a $500 college scholarship from La Prensa. The scholarship was presented during the 2014 MidWest LatinoFest held August 30, in downtown Toledo.

Devin is a freshman this fall at Terra State Community College, located in Fremont. He is pursuing an associate’s degree in 3-D Animation. He plans to use the scholarship to help pay for textbooks, he said.

To be considered for the scholarship, students must possess a minimum 3.0 grade point average; demonstrate good citizenship and a financial need and be enrolled in college full-time.

A Genoa High School graduate, Devin said his father Luis González, a Lucas County Deputy Sheriff, has been a lifelong role-model and inspired him to pursue a college degree.  Mr. González, who earned a degree in law enforcement from Terra, has been with the sheriff’s department for 30 years.

“I’ve seen how successful my father has been and how a college degree has allowed him to provide for his family; I want to be able to do the same thing,” said Devin.
