Viva La Vida!

Library Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
 

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Main Library, 325 Michigan St. Bring the entire family to help celebrate this annual FREE event! This year’s exciting theme Viva La Vida! (Live Life) focuses on the health and wellness of the community, and includes special local and regional guests.
 

Meet Miss Ohio Latina 2015 Vanessa Avalos! Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15 through October 15, and helps celebrate Hispanic heritage and honor the independence of Latin American countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua.  In addition, both Mexico and Chile are independent during September.

The Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center, Inc. (www.sqacc.org ), and Adelante-The Latino & Community Resource Center (www.adelantetoledo.org ), both plan to host booths stationed in the Wintergarden for the duration of the ˇViva La Vida! program.

Schedule of activities:

• 10:30-10:45 a.m. – Welcome (Wintergarden);

• 10:45 a.m.-Noon – Ready to Read van, Miss Ohio Latina 2015 Vanessa Avalos, and health presentation for youth by ProMedica (McMaster Lobby);

• 11 a.m.-1 p.m. – Finger printing for children, National Latino Peace Officers Association of Northwest Ohio, and The University of Toledo College of Medicine’s Department of Physician Assistant Studies students will conduct health screenings for attendees (including blood pressure, BMI assessment, Lifestyle questionnaire and more) (McMaster Lobby);

• Noon-1 p.m. - Zumba by Elaina Hernández (North Lawn – bring workout/comfortable clothes to participate);

• Noon-3 p.m. Photo booth photography by Lonnie Nitschke of WorldWide Photography, a division of Event Photography Group (Pop Teen/Metro);

• 1:15-2 p.m. – El Tipico food presentation by Dina Villa (Huntington Room);

2-3 p.m. – Jacob Estrada and Los Mariachis Locos Band (Wintergarden);

• 3 p.m. – Closing (Wintergarden).
