Don’t miss Super Why and Peg + Cat, Sept. 14

Super Why and Peg + Cat must be super heroes – they actually make learning math and reading fun.

The popular PBS TV cartoon characters will be on hand to do just that during WGTE’s Free Family Fun Day, 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept.14, 2014, at the Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter, 7060 West Sylvania Avenue, Sylvania OH.

The event is free and open to the public. Most activities are designed for children who are pre-school age to second grade. The event will air live on FM 91.
 

“There will be dozens of table’s set-up so that kids and their families can participate in literacy, science and math activities,” said JamiePierman, spokeswoman for WGTE. “There will also be live music performed by the Toledo School for the Arts Jazz Band.”

Children will also enjoy balloons, temporary tattoos and facepainting. Funding for the event is provided by the Toledo area Conda Family, which supports early childhood education activities.

Super Why stars in his own animated series, The ReadingAdventures of Super Why! which has been airing on PBS since September 2007.

Peg + Cat is based on the children’s book The ChickenProblem, and focuses on Peg and her Cat. 

Each episode of the PBS show begins with Peg, dressed in a red hat and blue dress, staring directly into the camera and confesses they have a “really big problem,” which invariably includes a math problem that must be solved. The show began airing in October 2013.
