This year, the HFC Welcome Back Days arrives at the perfect time—Welcome Back Days coincides with the Michigan Community College Association’s Community College Week Sept. 13-21, with both events helping to raise public awareness regarding the importance of community colleges in the state of Michigan.

At Welcome Back Days, students learn about the many programs and services available at HFC, and are encouraged to get involved in student life. They have opportunities to join student clubs, speak with student support services representatives, and learn about the programs and admissions requirements required to continue their education after graduating from HFC.
Tuesday and Wednesday will feature student clubs looking to recruit new members and promote upcoming events. Students will also have the opportunity to register to vote in the upcoming election Nov. 4.
Thursday will feature Student Support Services, which will include Financial Aid representatives, information on transferring to four-year colleges or universities, tips on note-taking and study skills, as well as other topics assisting with the success of students. Refreshments will be available all three days.
Two highlights of Welcome Back Days include a magic show and live music. On Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., magician Edd Fairman, alias the Wizard of Sorts, performs his routine, which is a combination of non-traditional magic and interactive comedy.
On Thursday at 12:30 p.m., the Big Bang Blues Band will make its debut, covering hit songs. The majority of this band is comprised of HFC science faculty, including astronomy instructor Mike LoPresto on vocals, physics/astronomy instructor Steve Murrell on bass guitar, geology/physical science instructor Brian Kirchner on lead guitar and Hans Masing on drums.
