United Way of Greater Lorain County to kickoff Annual Campaign on Friday, Aug. 22 at Mike Bass Ford
United Way of Greater Lorain County will kickoff its annual campaign on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a tailgate-themed party at Mike Bass Ford in Sheffield Village, Ohio.
The Campaign Kickoff is free and open to the public, but registration is required by visiting www.uwloraincounty2014kickoff.eventbrite.com. Attendees are challenged to white out Mike Bass Ford during the kickoff by wearing a Live United t-shirt to the event. Shirts will also be distributed while supplies last to those without a Live United shirt.
“This is an exciting way for us to start our campaign season and to bring awareness to the work that we’re doing throughout Greater Lorain County,” said United Way of Greater Lorain County executive director Bill Harper. “We plan on having a lot of fun as a way to thank our great supporters and to energize the community for the challenge that lies ahead.”
Lunch will include hamburgers and hotdogs fresh off the grill as well as side dishes prepared by the Lorain County Community College Culinary Arts Program and the Oberlin Inn. Healthier alternatives to traditional tailgate fair will be offered, including turkey burgers and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Tiffany Tarpley from WKYC Channel 3 will host the event. Tarpley is a Lorain native and LCCC graduate. Entertainment will be provided by the Elyria High School drum line as well as mascots from the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland State University, Lake Erie Crushers, Lake Erie Monsters, Lorain County Community College, and the Lorain County Metro Parks.
A variety of interactive stations will take place inside and outside of the Mike Bass Ford showroom, including a Fill the Bus promotion. Attendees are encouraged to drop off school supplies as they enter the event. Visiting the stations will offer chances at prizes, including a Joe Haden autographed football and a Kindle.
A press conference will be held at 11 a.m., prior to the start of kickoff. The press conference will include an exclusive screening of United Way of Greater Lorain County’s new campaign video as well as remarks from Tim Alcorn, 2014 campaign chair and station manager at WEOL radio, Mike Bass Ford president Jim Bass, and Harper.
