8th Annual Toledo Antique & Classic Boat Show to be held at National Museum of the Great Lakes, Aug. 23 & 24,

Tall Ship, the US Brig Niagara deck tours available

In conjunction with Toledo’s new National Museum of the Great Lakes and Ramsey Brothers Restorations, the eighth annual Toledo Antique & Classic Boat Show will take place at the museum at 1701 Front St., Toledo, OH 43605 on Saturday and Sunday, August 23 & 24, 2014. The show will take place from 9:00am – 5:00pm on Saturday and 9:00am-3:00pm on Sunday. NMGL will be open during the same hours, but will close at 5pm in Sunday.

The Antique & Classic Boat Show event is for people of all ages to come and enjoy a day of re-living maritime history on the Great Lakes and Maumee River. There will be dozens of boats displayed on land and in the water ranging from the 1920’s era through modern day replicas bearing historic names such as Chris Craft, Dart, Gar Wood, and Lyman.

This year’s show will feature deck tours of the US Brig Niagara. The U.S. Brig Niagara, whose home port is Erie, Pennsylvania, is the reconstructed relief flagship of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry.

On September 10, 1813, nine small ships, including Niagara, defeated a British squadron of six vessels in the Battle of Lake Erie. A pivotal event in the War of 1812, it led to regaining Detroit, lost at the war’s outset, and lifted the nation’s morale. Deck tours of the Niagara will be available throughout the run of the Boat Show and are included in the Explorer Ticket price.

A variety of marine vendors will be set up under a tent in the park adjacent to the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship. Vendors will be selling books, artifacts and maritime items to visitors. Food vendors will be available on site throughout the weekend. For more information about the Boat Show, visit www.toledoboatshow.com or call 419.255.2628 (BOAT).

Admission: The Explorer Ticket, for just $15.00 per person, includes admission to the Boat Show, the National Museum of the Great Lakes, the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship and the US Brig Niagara. Admission to the Boat Show only is $5.00. Children 6 and under are FREE! NMGL Members get FREE Explorer tickets as part of their membership.
