Zoo Offers Watch it Grow Garden Tour Series

Animals aren’t the only thing to see while at the Toledo Zoo. Stroll through the Zoo’s beautiful gardens and see how they grow, bloom and change throughout the season. The 2014 Watch it Grow garden tour showcases the Zoo’s rose, vegetable, butterfly, herb and formal gardens. The tour introduces the Zoo’s horticulturist staff, who will cover topics such as soil preparation, plant identification and selection, fertilization, watering, pruning, cultural practices and gardening tips.

These 90-minute walking tours are on the third Wednesday of each month, through September. Tours are from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon and are free with regular Zoo admission. Reservations are not required; just meet at the Zoo’s historic Ziems Conservatory and be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

August 20: 10:30 a.m. to noon
September 17: 10:30 a.m. to noon

More information is at toledozoo.org/gardentours.

While you’re at the Zoo, don’t miss the all-new Flamingo Key, Penguin Beach, and ‘Keet Retreat. Flamingo Key, sponsored by Toledo Express Airport, shows off the “avian supermodels” back at the Zoo for the first time in decades. Near Primate Forest, Penguin Beach leads you right through the penguins’ exhibit, along with daily keeper-led penguin feeds sponsored by ProMedica. Just a couple minutes away, ‘Keet Retreat, sponsored by BP, offers a fun new walk-through encounter with these bright, friendly little birds.

Visitor experiences like these are just some of the reasons the Toledo Zoo is rated the #1 zoo in the nation by USA Today Travel, and among the top ten family attractions nationwide by FamilyFun Magazine. More information is at toledozoo.org.
