CLASSICAL 101 LAUNCHES BILINGUAL SHOW
COLUMBUS, JULY 24, 2014: WOSU Public Media has announced the launch of ‘Concierto’, a bilingual, classical music program on Saturday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Classical 101 beginning August 2, 2014.
‘Concierto’, the new weekly program presented in Spanish and English, is hosted by Frank Domínguez and will highlight selections by Spanish and Latin-American composers and performers. A typical show may offer music of Smetana and Schubert as well as Sojo, Blasco and Soler, with performances by Jose Carreras and Pablo Casals.
About a classical music program in Spanish, Dominguez says, “With ‘Concierto’, we are creating a perfect entryway to classical music for Latinos in America…Hispanic culture is more diverse than merengue and mariachi! Classical music has strong, deep roots in all the Americas, and ‘Concierto’s’ programming reflects that diversity. This is truly international music.” Moreover, the bilingual presentation offers listeners an opportunity to hone or acquire second-language skills.
‘Concierto’ is produced by WDAV Classical Public Radio in North Carolina and is America's first nationally distributed bilingual (Spanish-English) classical music program.
Classical 101, at 101.1 FM, is the only all-day classical music radio station in Central Ohio and is the hub of a five-station network of classical stations across Ohio. Listeners can also tune in to the classical music service at WOSU HD-2 on 89.7 FM, through the online stream at wosu.org, and by downloading the free WOSU Public Media mobile app.
