Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority announces new efforts to fight Human Trafficking

May 5, 2014: During a press conference Monday morning, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), State Rep. Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo), and several other community leaders announced the city’s latest efforts to combat human trafficking in Northwest Ohio.

“I am pleased to see TARTA join the effort to halt human trafficking in the region,” said Rep. Fedor. “Educating and empowering drivers to report suspected cases of human trafficking will serve to protect those most vulnerable in Toledo. I’d like to commend TARTA for its strong initiative to combat this crime.”

TARTA and the Lucas County Human Trafficking Coalition will partner up to train drivers to recognize signs of human trafficking and demonstrate the necessary steps to take during those critical moments.

For the past eight years, Rep. Fedor has been a leading advocate in the fight to end human trafficking, and is now urging lawmakers to pass Sub. H.B. 130, the End Demand Act. In 2012, the General Assembly passed Rep. Fedor’s Safe Harbor Act – a victim centered bill aimed at providing protection, prosecution and prevention.
