Emily Dickinson’s poetry experiments are subject of CWRU talk, April 11

Emily Dickinson wrote in an atmosphere of experimentation. The Case Western Reserve University Department of English will examine her approach in a lecture at 3 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2014. The talk is free and open to the public.

In “Dickinson, the Ballad, and 19th-Century American Experiments in Verse Form,” Cristanne Miller, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Edward H. Butler Professor of Literature at the University of Buffalo SUNY, will elaborate on both Dickinson’s experimentation and her understanding of the lyric in her day.

Professor Miller worked on a new volume of the complete poems by Dickinson (Harvard University Press, no publication date yet) this year while serving as a Fulbright-Tocqueville Chair Fellowship at the University of Paris 7 and the American Council of Learned Studies.

For information, email Susan Grimm in the English department at [email protected].
