Planning begins for Diamante 25th anniversary

January 27, 2014: The Diamante Awards—schedule for September, 2014—will mark its 25th anniversary as a Latino scholarship and community service awards event—so the planning has begun a bit early by the Diamante Committee to make sure that celebration is fitting for such a milestone.

The committee consists of: Kelly Dilworth, Lourdes University; Cecilia Rivera, The University of Toledo; Yolanda Flores, Bowling Green State University; Connie Weaver, Bowling Green State University; Alexis DeAnda Martínez, Bowling Green State University; Debra Green, Owens Community College; Kevin Milliken of Herzing University – Toledo; Margarita De León, Kaleidoscope Group of Chicago; Guisselle Mendoza; and María González, Event Coordinator.
The first awards were given in 1990 to Judge Joseph A. Flores, Dr. Thomas López of the University of Toledo, entrepreneur Hernan Vásquez, Sandy Barrientos, Jesús Guel, and María Guel. Additional past award recipients are listed on the Diamante website www.diamantetoledo.org/
Co-founder Ms. De León called it “a big year for the community.”
“The 25th anniversary is a celebration of all the people who have received scholarships, people that have received awards—and it really is a celebration of all the contributions that the Latino community gives to Toledo all the time.”
