Statement on Governor Snyder’s announcement of the Michigan Office for New Americans
LANSING, Jan. 17, 2014: The Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan and the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission last night issued the following statement in support of Governor Rick Snyder’s plan to sign an executive order creating the Michigan Office for New Americans, as outlined in his 2014 State of the State address:

The Michigan Asian Pacific American Commission (MAPAAC) was established to advance the full and equal participation of Asian and Pacific Americans in the building of a greater Michigan. The Commission, made up of 21 individuals appointed by the Governor, advises the Governor and state legislature on policy matters and serves Michigan’s Asian and Pacific American population by promoting their development and welfare and recognizing their achievements.
The Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan was created in 1975 to represent the interests of Michigan's Hispanic and Latino population – one of the fastest-growing ethnic groups in the state. The Commission, made up of 15 gubernatorial appointees, advises the Governor and state legislature on policy matters and serves Michigan’s Hispanic and Latino population by fostering and celebrating their achievements and promoting their development and welfare.
