Lansing zoo sends 2 Amur tigers to South Dakota

LANSING, Jan. 16, 2014 (AP): Officials at the Lansing zoo says two Amur tigers born there three years ago are heading for a new home in South Dakota.

The Lansing State Journal (http://on.lsj.com/1eFGtu1 ) says the Potter Park Zoo tigers known as Kira and Savelii have a new home at Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, S.D.

The move was taking place Thursday.

The Lansing zoo is keeping the tigers' sister Ameliya, father Sivaki and mother Nika.

Amur tigers were once referred to as Siberian tigers, but they're no longer found throughout that region. They're named for the Amur River in far eastern Russia where nearly all the big cats are still found the wild.
