STORY TIMES: Now is the time to sign up for story time at Lorain Public Library System’s Main Library. Story time provides the building blocks of early literacy. EXCEL FOR BEGINNERS: Learn the basics of Microsoft Office Excel 2007 at Lorain Public Library System’s Main Library on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. Learn how to set up a spreadsheet workbook, input data, compose simple formulas, and choose layout and print format options. A limited amount of hands-on practice time will be available. Participants need to be comfortable using a mouse to attend. TED JACOBS BOOK SIGNING: “It’s Up To You! Change Your Attitude, Change Your Life” – at least that’s what local business owner Ted Jacobs believes. Jacobs will be at Lorain Public Library System’s Main Library on Thursday, Jan. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. to sign his book. Copies of his book will be available for purchase. THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AND YOU: Learn to navigate the new Health Insurance Marketplace at Lorain Public Library System’s Main Library on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. A certified broker for individuals and small businesses will be at the library to discuss the Affordable Care Act. SPECIAL EVENTS: Celebrate Avon’s Bicentennial at the Avon Branch Library
The city of Avon is celebrating a milestone. 2014 marks the city’s 200th anniversary. In honor of Avon’s bicentennial, Lorain Public Library System’s Avon Branch is hosting a Bicentennial Local History Series this winter.
Explore Avon’s ancient history, its early people and artifacts on Jan. 21, 2014. Travel back to 1814 when Avon was first settled and learn about the daily life on Feb. 11. Discover the people who helped Avon become the thriving city it is today on March 18.
