Toledo Chamber announces 2014 Leadership Academy schedule
The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Fund, in partnership with the Ohio State University Extension Service, and Sea Grant Program, has announced that its 13th Annual Leadership Academy will begin on Monday, January 27, 2014.
The Leadership Academy is a 10-week course that outlines the basic issues, requirements, expectations and practices associated with various types of public service in the Toledo Region. It is designed to be a guide for current public officials, private citizens considering running for public office, individuals appointed to various boards, committees and commissions or anyone employed in a position that requires interaction with elected officials.
Faculty for the 2014 Leadership Academy includes: Barbara Sears (Ohio House of Representatives, District 47), Tom Waniewski (Toledo City Council, District 5), and Tony Reams (president, Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments).
The 10-week course covers:
• Public Service and Conducting Meetings;
• Leadership Skills, Styles and Decision Making;
• Building Sustainable Communities;
• Government Finance;
• Communicating and Working with Citizens;
• Team Building;
• Communicating and Working with the Media;
• Intergovernmental Relations and Economic Development;
• Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution ;
• Ethics in Local Government.
Course Schedule: Classes will be held on Mondays beginning on January 27, 2014 and concluding with graduation on April 7, 2014. Classes are held from 6-8 p.m., with a light meal served at 5:30 p.m. prior to each class. All sessions will be held at the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce (300 Madison Ave. in downtown Toledo). Parking will be available in the building’s garage and is offered at no cost to class participants, courtesy of Toledo Edison a FirstEnergy Company. Cost for the 10-week course is $250 per person.
