Don’t Miss 3 Kings’ Day Celebrations

On January 6th, Latin American children anxiously await “El Día de los Reyes” or Three Kings’ Day celebrations. For them, the holiday season doesn’t officially end until the 12th day of Christmas known as the “Feast of the Epiphany” or “Three Kings’ Day”—another day when niños receive holiday gifts.

In México and Puerto Rico, for example, children leave out their shoes for the Three Kings on the night of Jan. 5. Sometimes, the shoes are filled with hay for the Kings’ camels. When the children wake up on Jan. 6, the hay is gone, and the shoes are filled with candy and toys.

In Cleveland, the Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center combines Christmas and Three Kings’ festivities into an event called Parrandon Navideno. For details, visit:  www.juliadeburgos.org

In Toledo, Club Taino Puertorriqueño hosts its 18th celebration and fundraiser on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at L’Ambiance Banquet Hall, 5237 Renwyck Drive. Dinner is at 6:30PM and the dance is at 8:00PM. Cleveland’s Sammy De León and his orchestra (salsa) will be providing some of the entertainment. Tickets are $30 per person ($50 per couple).
