On Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, more than 500 Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association volunteers will be in Toledo area Andersons, Franklin Park Mall, grocery stores, bowling centers, shopping centers, credit unions, and various other local retailers to “hawk” the organization’s annual Charity Edition newspaper. The Old Newsboys will not be on any street corners. The 2013 goal is $200,000.
This year marks the 84th consecutive year that the Newsboys men and women volunteers will brave the wind and cold to make a positive impact in a child’s life. Our purpose: to provide immediate help whenever a school administrator, police officer, or neighbor reports that a child is in need of shoes, a coat, food, or emergency medical attention.
Contributions to the annual Charity Paper Sale make this assistance possible. The Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association is one of Toledo’s 100% Charity. This means that every single dollar raised is used to provide clothing, food, or medical care - no questions asked!
Last year, the Old Newsboys spent more than $200,000 on shoes and coats for children, provided nearly 1,000 Toledo area families with food baskets for Christmas, funded Drug Awareness Programs, and awarded scholarships to high school seniors who would not have had the chance to attend college.
According to John Mattimoe, Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association 2013-2014 President, “The Old Newsboys foresee a need of more than $200,000 in order to provide Toledo and surrounding area children from more than 65 different schools with coats and shoes. Calls are already coming in, as the cooler weather conditions develop. We must raise these funds in order to meet the growing need.”
To those who help - THANK YOU!
