Dept. of Neighborhoods hosts holiday luncheon for homeless
Nov. 21, 2013: The City of Toledo Department of Neighborhoods held its 16th annual luncheon for the homeless and under-housed today. This luncheon is an annual event that allows city staff to serve those individuals who are homeless and less fortunate throughout the city.

According to Lourdes Santiago, director of the city’s Dept. of Neighborhoods, the homeless holiday luncheon was provided jointly by the City of Toledo Department of Neighborhoods and community partners (homeless service providers, food banks and food kitchens such as Toledo Seagate Food Bank, St. Paul’s Community Center, Helping Hands of St. Louis, Cherry Street Mission, “We R Ribs” and MLK Jr. Kitchen for the Poor) funded through the city’s CDBG and Emergency Solutions Grant programs.
A traditional Thanksgiving style meal was served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Participants had the opportunity to visit a mobile health clinic and other health and wellness service providers for health screenings and service referrals. Hannah’s Socks was on hand to deliver new socks to attendees in need of some warmer footwear for the winter months.
United Way, EOPA, and other community service organizations were additionally present to assist the guests including: WGTE – Early Literacy Partnership, Lucas County Regional Health District, Northwest Ohio Dental Association, Unison Behavioral Health Group, UMADAOP, Veteran’s Administration and Veteran’s Center, NHA Mildred Bayer, and NPI/PATH – Neighborhood Properties Inc.
