SQACC’s 17th anniversary celebration included an exhibit of the Día de los Muertos altars created by community families, Spanish Clubs from local High Schools, and artists. A special altar was created to honor and remember the 10-year passing of beloved Judge Joseph A. Flores.
The evening fundraiser was from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Sofia Quintero Arts & Cultural Center on Broadway Avenue. A traditional Mexican dinner was served featuring authentic Mexican food prepared by Quintero’s resident chef and served by Waite High School students, supervised by Josh Flores. Guests were entertained by Los Mariachis Locos.
Altars activities were free and open to the public starting with a blessing ceremony at 9:00 a.m. at the Quintero Center followed by a procession lead by Father Juan Molina to SS Peter & Paul Parish, 728 S. St. Clair St, for mass and a pan dulce y chocolate reception.
The altar exhibit is open to the public from November 4th through Friday, November 15th from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. For school groups and the general public to view the altars, contact Cathy at 567-343-8671 to reserve a time.
