El Proyecto de Testigos en Silencio del Noroeste de Ohio es un recordatorio de las niñas y mujeres que sus vidas terminaron abruptamente por las manos de sus esposos, ex-esposos, compañeros o conocidos. Esta exhibición presenta más de 55 siluetas de tamaño real de niñas y mujeres. Esta colección de madres, hijas, hermanas, sobrinas y amigas es un poderoso testimonio del compromiso de romper el silencio acerca de la violencia doméstica. Este proyecto comenzó en el año 1990 en Minnesota organizado por un grupo de mujeres artistas y escritoras en memoria de 26 mujeres que perdieron sus vidas a consecuencia de actos de violencia doméstica.
Localmente, este proyecto fue fundado por el Centro de Mujeres de la Universidad Estatal de Bowling Green (Women’s Center)en el año 2002 en memoria de Michelle Rizzi, una estudiante graduada de dicha universidad, que fue asesinada por su esposo en el 2001.
Este año la Ceremonia de Develado del Proyecto de Testigos en Silencio se llevará a cabo en el Centro Islámico de la Ciudad de Toledo, localizado en 25877 Scheider Road, Perrysburg, Ohio el día 7 de octubre a las 7:00pm. 7th Silent Witness Project Unveiling Ceremony
The Northwest Ohio Silent Witness Project Unveiling Ceremony is a memorial to girls and women whose lives were ended abruptly and violently at the hands of a husband, ex-husband, partner or acquaintance.
The Silent Witness exhibit has over 55 life size silhouettes of girls and women. This collection of mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, and friends are a powerful testament of commitment to break the silence about domestic violence, (statement taken from the Northwest Ohio Silent Witness).
The Silent Witness Project started in 1990 in Minnesota organized by a group of women artists and writers, in memory of 26 women who lost their lives as consequence of domestic violence.
Locally, the project was founded by The Women’s Center of Bowling Green State University in 2002 in the memory of Michelle Rizzi, a graduate of this university who was killed by her husband in 2001.
This year the 2013 Silent Witness Project Unveiling Ceremony will take place at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, 25877 Scheider Road, Perrysburg, Ohio on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at 7:00pm, sponsored by the Women’s Center at BGSU with over fifty co-sponsors organizations.
