Henry Ford Community College Student Nurse Association Blood Drive Sept. 11-12

The Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) Student Nurse Association will sponsor a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, on the East Campus, located at 3601 E. Schaefer Rd. in Dearborn.

Donors with type O negative blood, type A negative blood and type B negative blood are in high demand. Type O Negative is the universal blood type, which can be given to patients with ANY blood type.

September is also National Preparedness Month. Hospitals need blood to respond to patient needs. The blood used in emergencies is already on the shelves before the need arises.

Additionally, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and National Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

Individuals with sickle cell disease require multiple transfusions of red blood cells to prevent chronic complication of the disease. Blood donors can make a difference to cancer patients, including those with pediatric cancers.

Register at www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code “hfnurse.” If you have trouble registering, contact Jennifer of the American Red Cross contact at 313.549.7044.

For further information, please contact Cathy Gangarossa of the Nursing Faculty at 313.845.6366.
