Inkster students split between 4 school districts

LANSING, July 26, 2013 (AP): The financially struggling Inkster school district has been dissolved and its about 2,200 students are being split among four other area school districts.

The Wayne County Regional Education Service Agency's Board of Education on Thursday night took action to divide Inkster Public Schools into four areas. The school districts receiving students are Romulus, Taylor, Westwood and Wayne-Westland.

The move comes after the state on Monday said the Inkster and Buena Vista school districts had not secured new loans to finance operations and would be dissolved. That was the deadline given by state Treasurer Andy Dillon and state Schools Superintendent Mike Flanagan.

A new law allows the state to disband the districts.
