CPL celebrates its 100th on August 3rd
July 17, 2013: A centennial birthday does not happen every day for libraries, so when they come along, they are special celebrations. Cleveland Public Library (CPL) invites the community to celebrate the 100th birthday of its Sterling Branch, located at 2200 East 30th Street, on Saturday, August 3rd from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
“While our city is constantly changing, our neighborhood libraries have been centers of lifelong learning for generations of Cleveland residents,” said Felton Thomas, Director of CPL. “We invite the community to join us in celebrating the magnificent legacy of this historic building.”
Designed by Edward Tilton, an architect renowned for his work on libraries and the main immigration building on Ellis Island in New York, the Sterling Branch opened in 1913 in the Central neighborhood. The building was rededicated August 11, 1985 after a renovation project that preserved the building’s classical style while bringing the building up to modern standards.
The family friendly celebration will include a cookout and other refreshments, live musical entertainment by Revolution Brass Band, and games and prizes for children of all ages. For more information, visit cpl.org.
