CPL and College Now Greater Cleveland welcome author Wes Moore

Cleveland Public Library (CPL) and College Now Greater Cleveland are welcoming Wes Moore, best-selling author of The Other Wes Moore to CPL on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium on East 6^th Street and Superior Avenue.

After reading a story about a man with the same name in the local newspaper, author Wes Moore was driven to learn more about the man with whom he shared his name. Mr. Moore, a Rhodes Scholar, veteran, White House Fellow and business leader reached out to the other Wes Moore, who was serving a life sentence for murder. The two men quickly discovered that they shared similar backgrounds and circumstances.

As their relationship developed, so did the story of the sharply diverging paths each man’s life took as a result of their choices.

“CPL is proud to bring Wes Moore to Cleveland in our partnership with College Now Greater Cleveland,” said Felton Thomas, Director of CPL. “Through Mr. Moore’s thought-provoking narrative, we are able to clearly see a story of two lives and choices that resulted in life-changing circumstances. This is an important message to share with the young people in our community.”

The Other Wes Moore is currently being read by 100 Greater Cleveland high school students participating in the Rockin’ in the 216 program offered at the Harvard-Lee and Rockport branches of CPL, delivered by College Now Greater Cleveland. The program is designed to enhance math and reading proficiency, improve students’ ACT scores, and develop technological capabilities through video and recording arts training.
