LCCC Enactus Team named regional champs

Elyria, April 15, 2013: The Lorain County Community College Enactus Team (formerly Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE))  traveled to Chicago, Illinois for the Enactus Regional Competition held on April 12. The team was name Regional Champion at the competition.

Competing with more than 60 college and university teams, the LCCC students presented a 17-minute multi-media summary of the outreach projects they developed and implemented throughout the past year.  They were judged by a panel of area business and community leaders on how well they created economic opportunity by empowering others.

Named a Regional Champion for their efforts, the LCCC Enactus Team will travel to Kansas City, MO to compete against other Regional Champions from around the country at the Enactus USA National Exposition, May 21-23.

The Team developed projects that addressed social issues such as hunger and child sexual abuse and also worked with local businesses to help them market their products and improve their profitability.

Professor Maria McConnell, LCCC Enactus Faculty Advisor, stated, “I am so proud of the students.  They tackled some difficult issues this year with their projects.  They did an outstanding job of presenting these to the judges and representing our college.”

The LCCC Enactus Team was also recognized by Enactus USA for the second year in a row as a member of the prestigious 4.0 Club which is an honor awarded to teams exemplifying outstanding student leadership, faculty advising and institutional and community support.

The students also had the opportunity to network with and interview for jobs and internships with 80 Enactus partner companies during the Career Fair held in conjunction with the competition.

LCCC Enactus has been active at Lorain County Community College since 1999.  Membership is open to any current LCCC student.  A Business Advisory Board comprised of business, community and academic leaders as well as Enactus alumni work with the Team in advising and assisting the students with their projects.
