Dominion East Ohio honored for commitments to Latino Community
CLEVELAND, January 25, 2013: The Centers for Families and Children (The Centers) today met with The Dominion Foundation to thank the organization for its financial contribution and ongoing support of its El Barrio Workforce Development Center. The $10,000 donation supports El Barrio’s work with Cleveland’s Latino population in workforce development and jobs readiness programs.
The Dominion Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, one of the nation’s largest energy producers, and parent company to Dominion East Ohio.
“Dominion’s continued generosity and support have been crucial to El Barrio’s ability to grow and broaden its job training services, which directly improves the lives of so many living in poverty in our community,” said David Doll, Board Chair for The Centers. “As strong community stewards, the company understands that job placement and diversity are both pivotal to strengthening our economy.”
In 2012, The El Barrio Workforce Development Center secured more than 376 jobs for its clients and also received the award for “Midwest Affiliate of the Year” for its work in progressing the lives of Hispanic Americans by The National Council of La Raza (NCLR).
Dominion East Ohio has been a founding contributor to El Barrio and since 1996 has donated $145,000 through the Dominion Foundation. And the support does not stop there. Dominion employees also are equally as committed to the cause.
“Not only has Dominion provided financial support, but also in-kind support and employee volunteers. Kevin Dobbins, Human Resources Manager for Dominion spends one morning a month teaching a class on job skills training, while, Dominion’s assistant general counsel, Lessie Jones has also served on the board of the Center for Families and Children for several years. We have enjoyed an incredible partnership with this fine community organization that is providing well-meaning services to the Hispanic community,” she added.
