The Mexican Mutual Society’s 16th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade and day of celebration will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Tentatively, the 16th Annual Parade will kick off from the Oakwood Park parking lot on 36th Street & Grove Avenue at 4:15 pm, like last year.
The Parade will go through the church parking lot to Homewood Drive down to Clinton Avenue, the Parade will then travel north on Clinton Avenue to 31st Street. The Parade will halt momentarily at the corner and a memorial wreath will be placed on the Hispanic Veteran’s Memorial, then the Parade will continue west and travel to Pearl Avenue. The Parade will turn north on Pearl Av. and end on 29th Street near the Mexican Mutual Society, where the rest of the day’s festivities will continue at the Society’s clubrooms. All Parade participants will be asked to enter 36th street from Clinton Av. by Oakwood Park.
Following the parade, there will be music, cold beverages and a variety of Mexican cuisine will be available for your purchase. At 6:00 pm we will crown the Society’s Little Cinco De Mayo Queen. Right after, Alma de Mexico Dance Troupe will perform a Mexican Cultural Dance Program. There will be music, dancing, games for the children, the big screen TV, and food all evening.
The Cinco de Mayo, or fifth of May, commemorates the 1862 Battle of Puebla, México, between the Mexican Army and a veteran French Army. The outnumbered Mexican Army defeated the heavily-armed and powerful French Army. The victory inspired the young nation and built up their hope and morale, in their continued fight for world independence.
The Mexican Mutual Society invites all community groups, organizations, bands, school groups, businesses, political and military organizations, one and all, to participate and celebrate with us in our Community Parade by walking, marching, entering a vehicle or a float. We ask all entrants to arrive at least one hour before the start of the Parade, and enter on 36th Street from Clinton Av. by Oakwood Park.
Call 440-288-0144 for more information or to register for the parade.
Thanking you in advance,
