Free master class and audition to sing with the Phantom at LCCC

Local singers have the opportunity to attend a free master class and, if they choose, can audition for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing on the Stocker Arts Center stage with Franc D’Ambrosio, who is best known for his portrayal of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's “The Phantom of the Opera.”

D’Ambrosio will perform Franc D’Ambrosio’s Broadway - Songs of the ‘Great White Way’ at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013, at Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center.

During his performance, D’Ambrosio will perform with two local singers who will be singing the roles of Christine and Raoul from “Phantom.” The singers will be selected through master class/auditions with D’Ambrosio. The master class/auditions will be held from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, January 31 in the main theatre at LCCC’s Stocker Arts Center and from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, January 31 at Kadel Vocal Performance Hall in the Boesel Musical Arts Center at Baldwin Wallace University.

The opportunity to attend the master class/audition at either LCCC or Baldwin Wallace is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the general public, though reservations are requested. Call the Stocker Arts Center at (440) 366-4140 to make a reservation to attend either of the master class/audition sessions.

Singers who would like to audition should come to the master class with two songs prepared. One should be “All I Ask Of You” (one of the “Phantom” duets) and one other song in a similar Broadway style, such as “West Side Story,” “The King & I,” “Oklahoma,” etc. An accompanist will be provided. There is no cost for the master class or accompanist. People are welcome to attend the master class even if they are not interested in auditioning for the opportunity to sing during the February 1 performance.

Franc D’Ambrosio performed the role of the Phantom more than 2,200 times. He has been affectionately referred to as Phantom's "Iron Man of The Mask" and held the title as the World’s Longest Running Phantom for over a decade.

D’Ambrosio is a world-class teacher and studied with the late, legendary Luciano Pavarotti. His resume also includes an Academy Award nominated film, an Emmy Award nominated television show, a four-time Tony nominated Broadway show, two Grammy considerations, and a National Theatre Award nomination.

Francis Ford Coppola cast him as Anthony Corleone, the opera-singing son of Al Pacino and Diane Keaton in the seven-time Academy Award nominated film “Godfather III.” D’Ambrosio starred in the film and sang the Academy Award winning theme song, “Speak Softly Love (Brucia la Terra).” Franc D'Ambrosio has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe and South America with his critically acclaimed one-man shows
