Big Help for Small Business at LCCC’s Free Take Five Breakfast Series

Lorain County Community College’s Take Five breakfast series tackles the big questions in small business. The workshops are free and are tailored for companies with 50 or fewer employees. Each session includes registration and networking from 7:30-8 a.m., followed by a seminar from 8-9:30 a.m. in room 132 of the Entrepreneurship Innovation Center (EIC) building on the LCCC campus.

Upcoming Take Five sessions include:
Crime and Punishment: Consideration of Criminal Records for Employment Purposes, Thursday, October 18, 2012: John Gerak and Charles Billington of Ogletree Deakins will host the seminar. The presentation will assist you and your company to navigate through the various laws governing criminal background checks for employment purposes.

Retaliation Lawsuits: What Every Employer Needs to Know , Thursday, November 15: Josephine S. Noble of Ogletree Deakins will host the seminar. This discussion will examine recent developments in the law that employers should be aware of relating to retaliation claims and offer best practices for preventing, or at least reducing, the risk of retaliation claims.

Rules of Engagement: When Employees Take a Leave of Absence, Thursday, December 20: Natalie Stevens of Olgetree Deakins will host the seminar. This seminar will address the overlay of the ADA, FMLA and workers compensation laws to various return to work issues, including requests for additional leave, requests for workplace accommodations, requests for light duty work, documentation supporting the return to work, the ability to fill positions formerly held by employees who are out on leave, and termination of the employment relationship.
