CEO Eric Gordon welcomes hundreds of students from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District to Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s 6th Annual Youth Summit on Aug. 18, 2012 at Public Auditorium.
The District’s “Back to School Fair” will be part of this morning-long event, which brings students, parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, staff and civic and community leaders to one downtown site.
Wes Moore, the nationally renowned author, businessman and youth advocate, will appear as the keynote speaker. Moore also headlined the District’s “Rally for Excellence” in March.
The aim of the summit is to empower youth, who come away with information that can help each of them succeed in the classroom. The event will expose youth to a broad range of topics, including a discussion on bullying. The District plans to use the school fair, among other things, to shine a spotlight on the academic choices it offers.
Besides listening to Moore’s inspiring words, students who attend can get health screenings, take home information about school assignments and pick up school supplies free.
The event begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m., and lunch is provided. Free parking is also available at the Willard Garage. While they last, return bus tickets (RTA) will be issued to people who use the bus to get to the summit.
