Lenawee Intermediate School District provides new program College Now
The Lenawee Intermediate School District continually explores ways to prepare LISD TECH Center students for college readiness. A new program, College Now, provides increased dual enrollment (college classes that are required to obtain an associate’s degree in their CTE [Career Technical Education] pathway) opportunities for students enrolled at the LISD TECH Center.
There is no cost for these classes to the student, their family or their school district. In order to qualify, LISD TECH Center students must take the college course placement test and be eligible to take 100-level coursework, parents and their student must attend a College Now program orientation, and students must be “soft skilled” licensed to ensure they are ready to face the challenges of college coursework.
To maintain eligibility, students must meet the “soft skill “ requirements in the CTE* classroom (a 3.0 GPA in their CTE* program and a 2.0 GPA in their college coursework), all the college course work must directly apply to an associate’s degree aligned to the students Educational Development Plan (EDP) and Career Pathway and students must attend an advisory appointment with both the LISD TECH Center representatives and a college advisor every semester.
Students who participate in dual enrollment are more likely to pursue a bachelor’s degree, have higher first semester college grades and earn more credits during their first 3.5 years of post secondary education.
