100 percent of LCCC’s 2012 Radiologic Technology graduates pass board exam

A dozen Lorain County Community College students continued a tradition of passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) exam on the first attempt.

“We are pleased to announce that 100 percent of the radiologic technology students that graduated in 2012 passed the AART board exam,” said Jeff Walmsley, director of LCCC’s radiologic technology program.

The program has a long history of high AART pass rates. For the last five years, LCCC students have maintained a 98 percent first time pass rate. For the past 10 years, the rate has been 97 percent.

For Brian Hollows of Elyria, graduating from the LCCC radiologic technology program and passing the boards was a great accomplishment.

“Finding out I passed the boards was the greatest relief ever,” Hollows said.

With his new certification, Hollows, 24, was able to move in to a new position as a radiologic technologist at EMH, where he had been working as a general x-ray machine operator since September.

Hollows said he chose LCCC because of the affordable price and convenient location. Once enrolled, he found the instructors to be top-notch.

“The professors at LCCC are very good at what they do and they prepare you for what will be expected of you on the job,” he said.

Hollows and his classmates were strong students who worked hard to apply themselves to their studies, Walmsley said.

“Faculty work hard to teach not only what the exam covers, but more,” Walmsley said. “Our graduates are not only good at taking the test, but they also treat every patient in a caring and professional manner. They learn ethics and critical thinking along the way so they are prepared for the rapidly changing environment of diagnostic imaging.”
