Owens Women’s Soccer announces Express Summer Youth Camps, June 25-29
Owens Community College will offer area soccer players the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of the sport as women’s soccer hosts three separate Express Soccer Youth Camps, June 25-29, 2012.
The Express women’s soccer program will offer two separate camp sessions starting on Monday, June 25. The morning session is a Premier Camp for more experienced players and will take place from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., while the afternoon session is a Recreational Camp for beginning and less experienced players and will occur from 2-5 p.m. Both camps will conclude on Friday, June 29.
Youth ages 6-13 will be divided by age groups and abilities for each camp and receive individual instruction on various soccer technical and tactical skills. Camp instructors will include the Owens Express women’s soccer coaching staff and student-athletes as well as area high school and college coaches. Each individual will receive camp T-shirt and a certificate of participation.
Additionally, Owens women’s soccer will host a Goalkeeping Clinic for youth ages 8-18 Wednesday-Thursday, June 27-28. The clinic will take place from 5-7 p.m. and focus on the fundamentals and advanced skills of goalkeeping.
Parents and coaches are invited to attend the camps to listen and observe at no additional charge. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate soccer clothing and footwear for each camp. Additionally, attendees should bring their own soccer ball and a beverage.
All three camps will take place in the College’s soccer complex on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
Owens women’s soccer completed its first season as an intercollegiate program in 2011. Led by Head Coach Mary Whisler, the Express finished with a 12-8 overall record and in fourth place (5-5 record) in the NJCAA Region XII women’s soccer regular season standings. Owens lost to Schoolcraft College in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XII Championships.
