Enroll for Summer Fun at LCCC’s College for Kids

May 14, 2012: Give your kids a fun and educational reason to get out of the house this summer with College for Kids classes at Lorain County Community College. The first summer classes begin Monday, June 18, 2012. With more than 30 courses available for children in grades prekindergarten through high school, there’s something available for every age and interest.

Courses include:

Hip Hop Arts: A one-week series of hands-on workshops that allow students to experience the aesthetic expressions of hip-hop culture, including DJ-ing and mixing, MC-ing (rapping), dance (breaking), and art (video and graffiti). Students will have fun while experiencing hip-hop as a positive, productive form of creative self-expression while developing their imagination, creativity, self-esteem and valuable team work and critical thinking skills. The program will culminate with a performance featuring students and guest class instructors, The MisFits. The MisFits are a local arts collective that use these arts forms to make a positive impact on lives and communities. Each participant will receive a video of the performance and their work during the workshop.

Aspiring Authors: Learn to write amazing mysteries, poems, fantasies, and personal narratives. In addition popular stories by famous children's authors will be read aloud and discussed. Children will learn to write clearly, edit their compositions, and produce a polished final draft.

In the Kitchen with Kids: Students will learn basic cooking skills including measurements, setting the table, nutrition, healthy foods, and good eating habits while making yummy treats. _Computer Gaming I: Learn how to design and build computer games using GameMaker. This free software allows you to create professional looking games with backgrounds, animated graphics, music and sound effects. Please bring a flash drive to the first class meeting.
