Adelante, Inc. pays tribute to José Luna, others, March 29
Adelante, Inc., a Latino & Community Resource Center, is hosting the annual 2012 César Chávez Humanitarian Awards on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 6:00pm at Owens Community College’s Center for Fine & Performing Arts.
The annual event will recognize José Luna, the Hispanic Outreach Coordinator for Toledo Public Schools. Mr. Luna will receive the César Chávez Humanitarian Award for his extensive work supporting the needs of Spanish-speaking families and helping Latino students to graduate high school and pursue a college degree.
Headlining the event is nationally recognized speaker Consuelo Castillo-Kickbusch. Ms. Castillo-Kickbusch, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired), broke barriers and set records in the military where she became the highest-ranking Latina in the Combat Support Field of the U.S. Army.
Since retirement she has dedicated her life to empowering a new generation of leaders and has worked with over one million children and their parents across America through Educational Achievement Services, Inc. (EAS), a human development company. Ms. Castillo-Kickbusch has been profiled on CNN’s Latino in America, National Public Radio, the Lifetime Network, and Univision.
Four Toledo students will be recognized for their academic success, leadership, and community service. The Senior Award will receive a 3-credit hour summer tuition scholarship from Lourdes University. The senior, junior, sophomore, and freshmen awards will receive recognition at the ceremony.
The César Chávez Humanitarian Award celebration will support the vital and important charitable work of Adelante, Inc. – to improve academic success for grades K-12, increase financial and housing stability for families, prevent low birth weight in newborns, assist victims of domestic violence with achieving independence, and develop future leaders through academic, economic and life skills literacy programming.
Prior recipients include: Dolores Rodríguez (2003), Sue Campos (2005), and Ruth González de García (2008).
Platinum sponsors of the event include Owens Community College and Fifth Third Bank. Gold sponsors include Bowling Green State University, Lourdes University, and La Prensa.
Guests will enjoy Latino cuisine, music, dancing entertainment, and a cash bar. This event is business casual attire.
