Congressman Luis Gutiérrez, leader on immigration issues, campaigns with Kucinich in Lorain, Toledo March 1, 2
Chicago Congressman Luis Gutiérrez, a national leader on US immigration policy and Chairman of the Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, will be in northern Ohio this week campaigning on behalf of Congressman Dennis Kucinich in his race for the newly re-shaped 9th District seat.
“I need Dennis Kucinich on my side in Congress to continue efforts to make sure that our children can receive a great education and go on to make important contributions to our culture, our people, and our nation,” said Gutiérrez, the first Latino elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the Midwest.
Gutiérrez represents a diverse Congressional district that is home to large and established communities of immigrants from Eastern Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere. He worked closely with Kucinich to pass the historic DREAM Act in 2010, and will be attending forums in Lorain and Toledo to explain the legislation and answer constituent questions. Kucinich’s primary opponent, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, voted against the DREAM Act.
The complete schedule is still being finalized, but it includes the following two events:
On Thursday, March 1, 2012, Gutiérrez and Kucinich will be at the Rose Cafe at Lakeview Beach, 1800 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
On Friday, March 2, Gutiérrez and Kucinich will be at Latinos Unidos (Latins United) Hall, 706 South St. Clair Street, Toledo, at 9:30 a.m.
