Wayne State University professor González-Prendes to deliver Diversity Lecture, March 22

Anger will be discussed during the sixth annual School of Social Work Dean’s Diversity Lecture on Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 2-4 p.m. at the Wayne State University Law School’s Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium.

The free lecture, “Culture- and Gender-Sensitive Regulation of Anger,” will feature keynote speaker A. Antonio González-Prendes, assistant professor of social work at Wayne State.

Anger is a universal emotion experienced equally by men and women and found in all cultures and nationalities. However, culture-specific norms and display rules and gender-role socialization appear to heavily influence the way men and women express anger across cultures. This presentation will explore how cultural norms as well as gender-role socialization messages sanction expressions of anger.
