Hit a home run with ‘Damn Yankees’ at LCCC’s Stocker Arts Center

Faust, fly balls and devilishly good fun all meet at the home plate of “Damn Yankees” at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2012 Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center.

The show is part of Stocker’s Performing Artists Series. Tickets are $34 for orchestra; $27 for mezzanine; and $10 for students and youth 18 and under. Valet parking is available for this show for just $5 per car. Tickets for the performance and valet parking can be ordered online at www.stockerartscenter.com, or by calling the Stocker Arts Center box office at (440) 366-4040 from 12-6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 90 minutes before curtain time. Tickets are also available at the box office, located in the lobby of the Stocker Arts Center.

Joe Boyd, a 1950’s middle-aged baseball fanatic, sells his soul to the Devil, Mr. Applegate, for “one good long ball hitter” for his favorite team, the Washington Senators. Mr. Applegate turns Boyd into 22-year-old sports superstar, Joe Hardy. He leaves his wife behind and as Joe Hardy he transforms the hapless Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life (and wife) he’s left at home. With the help of a handy escape clause and a guilt-ridden temptress named Lola, Joe outsmarts the Devil, returns to his former self and shepherds the Senators to the World Series.

Filled with hit songs like “Whatever Lola Wants,” “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo.” and “You Gotta Have Heart,” “Damn Yankees” hit seven Tony Award-winning home runs.
