D.I.Ypsi Handmade Holiday Fair celebrates local artists

Ypsilanti: The D.I.Ypsi Handmade Holiday Fair returns for its second year starting Saturday, December 10, 2011, from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and continuing Sunday, December 11 from 12-6 p.m. at the Corner Brewery (720 Norris Street).

D.I.Ypsi is one of the newest events in a series of handmade fairs that are putting Southeast Michigan on the do-it-yourself map while supporting independent artists based in the Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Metro Detroit areas.

With stein in hand, shoppers can check out 30 independent artists selling sculpture, print, jewelry, and home goods. A wide variety of delicious microbrews, created by the one and only Arbor Brewing Company, will be on tap and the kitchen open. In addition, Ann Arbor’s Lunch Room will also be serving its lauded vegan fare.

Co-organizer Marcy Davy said there are two main reasons she helps put the indie art fair together.

“One reason is that I really love the town I live in and I want to be able to provide people an opportunity to shop from the artists that live in our area,” Davy said. “The other reason is it gives our fellow artist an opportunity to sell their work during a really busy shopping season."

Admission to this event is free. For more information, including a complete vendor list and driving directions, please visit www.diypsi.com.
