Educators team up to make college a reality
The KnowHow2GO (to college) Lorain County campaign kicks off with a series of parent and student information nights targeting students currently enrolled in grades 6-11. These free, public meetings promise to be filled with surprises and prizes for students who participate, as well as:
- Reinforce the importance and value of education and training beyond high school
- Share the KnowHow2GO planning tools, as well as other valuable resources like ACT, SAT, OCAN, Ohio Board of Regents, and scholarship programs
- Inform students and parents about college and career programs available to students beginning as early as 9th grade, such as PSEO, Early College High School, College Tech Prep, the Teacher Education Exploration Program, Project Lead the Way and more.
- Feed student creativity with the opportunity to create a graffiti mural with local graffiti artist Bob Peck
The information sessions will be held: Wednesday, November 16, 6:30-8 p.m., Lorain County Community College, College Center.
The U.S. Department of Education reports that eight out of 10 high school students expect to attain a bachelor’s degree or higher. To them, college is seen as the ticket to personal and professional success. But despite their aspirations, many students are unaware of opportunities available during high school to assist them in their preparation.
While the high schools work very hard to inform students and parents about how to go to college, some students just don’t believe they are college material, are overwhelmed by the process, or discouraged by perceived costs of attending college.
The KnowHow2GO campaign helps Lorain County students navigate the path to college.
All students in grades 6-11 and their parents are encouraged to attend one of these information sessions. Registration is encouraged but not required.
