BGSU presents Caribbean Crossroads
The Institute for the Study of Culture and Society’s and the Latin American and Latina/o Studies Cluster presented “Caribbean Crossroads,” three days of educational workshops and music.
The event started October 26, 2011, with the Action Project Concert and Workshop which included a roundtable discussion with the performers. The Action Project is an Afro-Celtic jazz sextet that combines Latin jazz, Afro-Cuban percussion and Celtic musical traditions.

A documentary about the impact of neoliberal globalization on Haitian women was presented on Thursday, October 27th. The film Poto Mitan or the “Pillar of Society” as women are known in Haiti was follow by a conversation with Director Mark Schuller, Assistant Professor of African-American Studies and Anthropology at York College, the City University of New York.
Friday, October 28th the Faculty and Graduate Student Symposium took place at the Bowen Thompson Student Union, with sessions presented by Valeria Grinberg Pla and Francisco Cabanillas, faculties from the Romance and Classical Studies, Susana Peña Director of Women’s Studies, Associate Professor, Ethnic Studies and Chad Coates, graduate assistant in the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
The Latin American and Latina/o Studies Cluster is an interdisciplinary group of faculty members committed to develop opportunities to learn about Latin America and Latinos in United States. The group is preparing for the 11th Ohio Latin Americanist Conference presented on February 17-18, 2012, hosted at Bowling Green State University.
