Film FOCUS, An Independent Film Festival – September 19-October 24

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is hosting its annual Film FOCUS, an independent film festival in the McMaster Center at Main Library, 325 Michigan St.

Experience these powerful, first-run feature films by independent filmmakers at 6:15 p.m. on Mondays, from September 19 through October 24.
• September 19, 2011 – Surrogate Valentine – 2011
USA, EXCLUSIVE SCREENING - In this must-see comedy, Goh is a struggling, but talented, indie musician who is given the task of teaching a Hollywood actor how to play a musician for an upcoming movie role.

September 26 – These Amazing Shadows – 2011 USA, EXCLUSIVE SCREENING - What do the films Casablanca, Blazing Saddles and West Side Story have in common? Besides being popular, they have also been deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and listed on The National Film Registry. This documentary tells the history and importance of this roll call of American cinema treasures that reflects the diversity of film, and indeed the American experience itself.

October 3 – Autumn Gold – 2010 Germany/Austria, EXCLUSIVE SCREENING - In this charming and life-affirming documentary, a group of senior athletes, with ages ranging from 80 to 100 years, fiercely compete in the World Masters Track and Field Championships in Finland.

October 10 – If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle – 2010 Romania - With only two weeks left before his release from a hostile juvenile detention center, Silviu is faced with the possibility that his little brother may be destined to follow in his footsteps without a serious sacrifice.

October 17 – Festival of Dramatic Shorts - This collection of exclusive short films from around the world will touch your emotional side, make you think, and maybe even terrify with their distinctive narrative style.

October 24 – Festival of Comedy Shorts - Laughter is the universal language in this collection of hilarious short films from around the globe. EXCLUSIVE SCREENINGS.

These films are not subject to rating by the Motion Picture Association of America. Recommended for adults; some films may contain strong language, sexual content and violence.  FREE parking is available in the underground garage.
