March Without Fear August 20

Detroit: A civil rights march is scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2011, 12:00 PM, in Clark Park to demand fundamental respect for the civil rights of ALL of Detroit’s communities.

According to a press release by Michigan Immigration Reform: the Border Patrol and ICE use racial profiling and harass immigrant communities-- raiding families outside elementary schools or stopping people on the street for no reason to demand their papers. Border Patrol has even targeted a food pantry and youth center, and local churches.

According to a press release by Michigan Immigration Reform: in the African-American community, police brutality is still a terrible problem. Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians face discrimination and racial profiling at our borders.

Speakers include: UAW President Bob King, Congressman John Conyers, and Congressman Hansen Clarke.

Sponsored by: The Alliance for Immigrants Rights, Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality, UAW Local 600, Michigan Indo-American Democratic Caucus, Michigan Immigrants Rights Center, One Michigan, UFCW Local 876, Detroit NAACP, SEIU Michigan Council, Consortium of Hispanic Agencies – Detroit, ACCESS
