Fall 2011 lineup of Authors! Authors! announced
A consumer travel expert, a Harvard professor and history maven, the Blade’s Outdoors Editor, and a New York Times bestselling author with Chinese roots are all scheduled for the 2011 Authors! Authors! Fall series, which kicks off September 14 and ends on November 17, 2011. The series, now in its 17th year, is presented by The Blade and arranged by the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.
Authors scheduled: September 14: Rudy Maxa, consumer travel expert: Maxa is host and executive producer of Emmy-award winning Rudy Maxa’s World, a public television travel series. Maxa is well known as public radio’s “Savvy Traveler” and is an award-winning contributing editor with National Geographic Traveler magazine. He also hosts America’s most widely-syndicated, weekend travel radio show, also called Rudy Maxa’s World, that airs on over 110 mostly news/talk stations and XM Radio in North America. - http://rudymaxa.com
October 20: Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Harvard professor and history maven: Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., is the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and the Director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University. Professor Gates is Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford African American Studies Center, the first comprehensive scholarly online resource in the field of African American Studies and Africana Studies. He is co-editor with K. Anthony Appiah of the encyclopedia Encarta Africana, and in book form under the title Africana: The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience. Oxford University Press published an expanded five-volume edition of the encyclopedia in 2005. November 3: Steve Pollick, Blade Outdoors Editor: Pollick joined the Blade staff in 1971 and in his early years covered the environment, the Great Lakes, health, energy, and other issues, as well as agriculture and rural life. He began writing outdoors columns in 1982, and he has traveled the world on outdoors assignments. Pollick earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, organic chemistry, and journalism from the University of Toledo in 1970 and a master’s degree in natural resources management from the Ohio State University in 1971. A member of several conservation and professional organizations, he also is a fellow of The Explorers Club in New York. Mr. Pollick is the author of two collections of nature essays published by the Blade, titled Reflections on a Summer Storm and Starwalking with Sarah. www.toledoblade.com
November 17: Lisa See, New York Times bestselling author: See is author of the critically-acclaimed international bestseller, Snow Flower and The Secret Fan, which took her to remote China. Her new novel, Shanghai Girls, delves into forgotten history much closer to home in Los Angeles’ Chinatown. See was born in Paris but grew up in Los Angeles. She lived with her mother, but spent a lot of time with her father’s family in Chinatown. Her first book, On Gold Mountain: The One Hundred Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family (1995), was a national bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book. - http://www.lisasee.com
Authors! Authors! appearances for Fall 2011 are all scheduled at 7 p.m. in the Stranahan Theater, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. Tickets are $10 per person, and $8 for students. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning Friday, August 19, 2011 at all Toledo-Lucas County Public Library locations (limited in quantity).

Following each Authors! Authors! talk, the author will be available to sign copies of their books. The author’s works will be available for purchase at the program from Barnes & Noble Booksellers.
