“Fiesta en la Huerta” un evento de la Iniciativa Latina de United Way

En los últimos meses United Way convocó a aquellos que estuvieran interesados en reunirse para determinar las necesidades de la comunidad Latina, así fue que nació la Iniciativa Latina (Latino Initiative). Esta agrupación, acuerdo a su propia descripción, está compuesta de un grupo apasionado de individuos que se dirige a movilizar la comunidad latina.
Esta agrupación está compuesta por representantes de organizaciones locales tales como Adelante, ABLE, East Toledo Family Center, Ability Center, United Way y otros.
En este momento, la Iniciativa se está concentrando en crear maneras de mantener saludables y activos a los niños y a sus familias.
Así es que el 13 de agosto de 2011 de 1 a 4 PM en el Jardín de Sofía Quintero estarán organizando un evento para toda la familia. “Fiesta en la Huerta” incluirá: competición de “preparación de salsa”, exámenes de salud gratuitos, demostraciones de comidas y más. También habrá actividades para los niños provista por YMCA/JCC Fun Bus y Promedica. Este evento es gratuito y abierto al público.
TARTA proveerá transportación gratuita desde y al evento entre las horas de mediodía (12:00PM) y 5:00PM. Se pueden conseguir pases de autobús válidos para el 13 de agosto en Adelante, East Toledo Family Center y United Way 211.

During the last few months, United Way invited those interested in getting together to determine the needs of the Latino community. This is how the Latino Initiative started. According to their own statement this is a passionate group of individuals aimed at mobilizing the caring power of the Latino community.
This group is formed by representatives of local organizations such as Adelante, ABLE, East Toledo Family Center, Ability Center, United Way and others.
At this time, the Initiative is focusing on develop ways to keep kids and families healthy and active.
On August 13th 2011 from 1 to 4 PM in Sofia Quintero’s garden they are organizing an event, “Party in the Garden,” that will include a salsa-making competition, free health screenings, and healthy food demonstrations. Also they will offer activities for children, provided by the YMCA/JCC Fun Bus and ProMedica.
This is a free event and it is open to the public.
Transportation to and from the event is also being provided free of charge by TARTA between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. Bus passes, valid August 13, are available at Adelante, East Toledo Family Center, and United Way 2-1-1.
