Toledo Museum of Art launches Facebook “Pride of Toledo” Photography Contest and Exhibition
The Toledo Museum of Art is encouraging community members and Facebook users to enter its “Pride of Toledo” Photography Contest and Exhibition.
The contest will spotlight photographs celebrating Toledo and its culture, architecture, history or iconic images. Digital images submitted should clearly be of Toledo. Contestants can enter photographs online between July 11 and July 24. Each contestant may enter up to three works.
By integrating art with social media, the public will be able to view the entries and vote on Facebook for their favorite photographs. The 30 most popular images will be printed, framed and shown in an exhibition Sept. 9–Nov.13 in the Museum’s Community Galleries. The top three works with the most votes will be highlighted in the show.
During the exhibition, a digital kiosk will be set up in the gallery to display all of the submitted photographs. Admission to both the exhibition and Museum is free.
The goal of the contest and exhibition is to utilize social media to reach out to and support artists in the community. By using Facebook, the contest is more accessible for those in Toledo who may be more inclined to enter online than sign up at the Museum, said Jennifer Bandeen, manager of the Community Galleries at the Museum.
Bandeen said she hopes the contest boosts sign-ups for the TMA Facebook page and gets more people interested in the Museum.
