Etsy Craft Party Comes to Toledo
On Thursday July 21st, 2011 artists, crafters and children of all ages will converge on Downtown Toledo for the most colorful party our city has ever seen.
Etsy Craft Party Toledo will begin at 1pm at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Main Library, 325 N. Michigan St. The day kicks off with an immense sidewalk chalk project. Main Library is surrounded by approximately 429 cement sidewalk squares, and the Party Planners hope to chalk them all. “This project is about professional artists, local children and adults, and downtown businesses coming together for one day of creative collaboration,” explained Kati Errington, an Etsy Craft Party Coordinator who also runs the shop ColorsofEden on Etsy.
From 1-5pm the public is invited to come to the Main Library and chalk a square of sidewalk. Participants may bring their own chalk and join for free, or register early at www.etsycraftpartytoledo.eventbrite.com and be provided chalk for a minimal cost. Noted Library Teen Specialist Mary Plews, “The Craft Party coincides with our Summer Reading Program, and we’re really excited to see what participants will come up with. It will be wonderful to see area readers and artists join together to circle our Library with art.
This first Etsy Craft Party Toledo coincides with the June 21st Art Walk. Arranged by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, the Art Walk is in the summer on the Third Thursday of each month and features around twenty local galleries. The public can view the Sidewalk Chalk project while featured on the Art Walk, which runs from 6-9pm that evening.
In addition to the Library’s Sidewalk Chalk project joining the Art Walk, Toledo School for the Arts will host the Etsy Craft Party sale event that evening. During the Art Walk, Gallerie 333 at TSA will feature exhibits from local Etsy sellers. Etsy sellers span the globe, but TSA welcomes those from the Greater Toledo Area. Etsy is an online sales website open to artists and crafters, with over 120 shops originating in our area. TSA runs shopTSA.etsy.com, allowing students to learn not only the production of art, but sales, inventory, packaging and marketing as well. Etsy Craft Day will give sellers an opportunity to meet in person and appreciate one another’s work.
